Bishop Graham Visits Community Lutheran, Sunday June 23rd

Bishop Richard Graham and his wife Nancy Ann worshiped with us on Sunday, June 23rd as Bishop Graham preached at both services and was present to speak and answer questions between services at an Open Forum in the Sanctuary.   After sharing the latest news of the ministry and mission of the Metropolitan DC Synod of the ELCA, Bishop Graham shared the news of his retirement after 12 years as our Bishop and the news of his successor Bishop-elect Leila Ortiz.   The Open Forum provided an opportunity for the Bishop to share more news of the Synod and his gratitude to Community Lutheran.    Then it was Pastor Joe’s turn to speak of his Retirement and Resignation Letter, to answer questions and give thanks for his 11-year pastorate with Community Lutheran.  Pastor Joe and Pastor Annabelle took the opportunity to give thanks for their 6 year Team Ministry together and the Co-Pastorate they have shared over the past 3 years.  Bishop Graham and the Pastors were able to answer questions and outline how the Congregation, Pastor Annabelle, Synod and Church Council would discern the next steps in staffing, ministry and mission for Community Lutheran.   In all of this Bishop Graham reminded us that Jesus Christ is Lord of the Church and continues to send the Holy Spirit to comfort, equip and guide us into the future as we “Welcome Others, Grow in Grace and Share Christ’s Love.”
