Over the past year, Community Lutheran Church has formed a connection with Meadowland Elementary. Meadowland is located less than two miles from our church, in Sugarland Run. The school has 28 classes, approximately 480 students, and sadly, approximately 40% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. This means that 40% of the children are receiving SNAP, TANF or Medicaid, are Foster children, are homeless/runaway/migrant children, participate in Head Start, or have income low enough to meet the Federal Eligibility Income guidelines. This school and these families need our help.
As always, our CLC members went above and beyond the call of duty to collect school supplies for Meadowland. Three car loads full of supplies were dropped off at Meadowland on Monday 8/21. As we were dropping off the supplies, the librarian and counselors started sorting. Supplies will be handed out to students in need starting Tuesday 8/22 at their open house. The principal, Mr. Mizell, as well as the front office staff and teachers that we encountered were extremely grateful. As we departed, Mr. Mizell said, “If you need us, we are just a phone call away.” And our reply…if you need US, we are only a phone call away. The impact your donations have on the lives of local families is extraordinary.
Thank you for your donations and for continuing to pray and show love to our local community.
