On Saturday, 5/26, our fearless Giving Garden team braved the heat and humidity to plant our Giving Garden. In the garden, you will find growing….cantaloupe, squash, zucchini, tomatoes and peppers.
Now we need your help! We are in need of volunteers to help take care of the garden this summer. When you sign up, you would only be responsible for taking care of the garden for one week. **This is a great opportunity for students and scouts to earn service hours or for any individual or family interested in helping to provide healthy produce to people in need in our community. You don’t need to know anything about gardening for this opportunity!**
Depending on the weather, the garden would need to be watered 2-3 times during the week. Watering is simple and only requires you to turn on the hose, let it run for 20-30 minutes (you can even go shop at Giant while you wait!), and then turn the hose off.
If there are veggies to be harvested, we would ask that you harvest them and then drop them off at the LINK pantry which is only 10 min away in Herndon. These vegetables will be delivered to clients in need of food in the Herndon, Sterling and Ashburn communities. This is such an important ministry and reach-ou to our community as the pantry has mostly non-perishable items. The fresh produce is a healthy addition to LINK deliveries that the clients love.
Thank you to Marilyn Bowers, Katy Gardner, Ethan Gramling and Cori Sanzano for planting the garden!
